I am Cougar.  Mountain Lion.

          I am Cougar.  Though all cats have their solitary side, I am the true loner.  So solitary, so secretive, so elusive that I seem more ghost than flesh.

          I am Cougar.  The mountain wildnesses are my decreasing home.  That you see me at all is proof of your invasion of my territory.

          I am Cougar.  I stand alone.  I stand guard over the declining wild spaces.

          I am Cougar.  My soul is not so different from your own.  Like me, you need the wild, you need uncivilized places.  Without them you lose touch with the gateway to Mother Nature.

          I am Cougar.  Begging for my mountain home.  Begging for each rock and stone.  Begging for you.
